Stone Soup - Beware

I have a close friend who broke a tooth on a piece of rock that was in a can of soup from a major manufacturer a couple of years ago. He sent the object off to the company's lab and they verified that it was from the area of manufacture and was a fragment from one of the machines that they use to process the soup. His dental bills were large and work to replace the tooth damaged was beyond his means since he had no dental insurance at the time. They offered him $1000 at the time.

He found s product liability lawyer and began to try and recover costs and expenses from the soup company. They are in arbitration at this time and he is hoping for a fair settlement soon. The most recent correspondence from the soup lawyer is that a reasonable person could expect to find a stone in a can of pea soup. Well, I am reasonable and I have never thought I should strain my soup for rocks. With all the warnings everywhere, they should warn people of this on each can. He can't go to the media with this due to the arbitration, but I have no agreement of this kind.

Let me know if you have had problems similar or would like more details.
