Natural Healing | The Secret Behind Natural Age Spot Removal Treatments

Age spot removal need not be a painful process. Age spots, also known as sun spots and liver spots, are dark discolorations of the skin that usually become prominent as a person gets older - hence the name. This is due to the fact that the skin is repeatedly exposed to the damaging effects of too much UV rays or ultraviolet rays, causing the skin to form abnormal pigmentation in tones of light brown, red and even black blemishes. This skin condition occurs both in men and women; but naturally, women are more affected by this than most men are. Despite its name, age spots may also appear on the faces, foreheads, shoulders, hands or instep, (or whatever normally exposed body part) of very young people, particularly when they stay too long under the hot sun without any form of UV protection.

Incredibly, age spots usually heal in time. Like any skin abrasion or superficial damage to the epidermis (the outermost layer of the skin,) the body soon sends healing agents to the affected portion to "correct" the situation. Unfortunately, some people do not let the skin heal because they continue to stay under the sun unprotected. Others are simply a matter of genetics; there are people whose skins heal a lot longer as compared to others, which is often the case for diabetics. And there are others still who are known to break out in spots when subjected to emotional distress.

Fortunately, there are some natural remedies to counter the appearance of or heal age spots. Technically, laser treatments, skin bleaching procedures and medical prescriptions may solve this problem, but these are rather extreme measures already. Many doctors would recommend that the people who wish to eradicate these skin discolorations try more gentle remedies first.

Two of the best recommendations so far are increasing one's intake of Vitamin C and Vitamin E. Both these supplements are necessary in helping the body rebuild the damaged skin. Consequently, by simply increasing dosages of Vitamin C and E in normal diet, the skin usually becomes more toned and younger looking. It would be best though to ask your doctor about what Vitamin E supplements you could take, and how to increase intake safely. Vitamin C, on the other hand, can be increased naturally by allowing more Vitamin C rich foods in your diet. Fruits like strawberries, oranges, persimmons, and kiwi are wonderful sources of this vitamin, and you need not worry about overdosing yourself too.

If you want natural salve, aloe vera taken directly from the fleshy leaves of the plant can be directly applied to the skin to speed up the healing process. You have to make sure though that there are no breaks, no cuts or no scratches on the affected skin before you do place the salve on. If you prefer ointments, or other topical solutions, make sure that these do not contain heavy doses of steroids, which can further damage the skin.

However, the best remedy is always prevention. Natural age spot removal may be achievable in time, but it would be great if you can prevent it altogether. When you go out, make sure that you do have sunscreen on. Or, the least you can do is wear protective clothing like long sleeves, or even a simple cap or sun visor.
